Is there a minimum age for a hair transplant?

Around the age of 20, 20% of men are already affected by androgenetic alopecia. Therefore, a recurring question from these patients is: Is there a minimum age for a hair transplant?

If hair loss is something that affects men and women of all ages, we can imagine how it must affect emotionally a young person, around 20 years old.

And the good news is that the techniques and instruments that we currently use in the FUE and FUSS hair graft techniques allow us to address interventions in men between 18 and 80 years of age . In fact, a hair transplant allows you to enjoy greater density as an immediate effect, preventing the patient from looking bald as they lose their hair over the years.

The following successful clinical case carried out at the Institut Vila-Rovira Hair Clinic shows that there is no minimum age for a hair transplant.

Hair transplant in a young man

The history of this case is that of a 21-year-old male patient who came to our clinic presenting a type V-VI Hamilton-Norwood AGA process. Currently, he was not doing any medical hair treatment.

Our doctors propose a maximum session with the FUE technique . The strategy we proposed was to fill in the entire area .

During the intervention, 3,732 follicular units were grafted (472 follicular units of 1 single hair in the first line and 1,381 follicular units of 2 hairs, 1,585 of 3 hairs and 294 of 4 hairs in the remaining areas). This is equivalent to almost 9,500 transplanted hairs .

We complemented the surgery with 3 months of oral vitamins and, as long-term maintenance treatments, it was proposed to start treatment with the lotion of Minoxidil 5% and Finasteride 1 mg orally.

The medical treatments gave us a better quality of the hair with the consequent global improvement of its image. The evolution of the hair transplant surgery was very good and after 12 months a highly satisfactory result was observed in terms of the frontal image for both the patient and the medical team.
